What is Fun Run 4?
Fun Run 4 is a free-to-play real-time PvP multiplayer racing game developed by Dirtybit, a game studio based in Bergen, Norway. It is the fourth game in the Fun Run series, which has accumulated over 150 million downloads across all titles since the original Fun Run launched in 2012.
Fun Run 4 was released globally on October 16, 2023, for iOS and Android.
In Fun Run 4, players race as 3D cartoon animal characters in real-time 4-player PvP races. The goal is to reach the finish line first — but players also use powerups like sawblades, lightning bolts, and bear traps to sabotage and eliminate opponents along the way. Eliminated animals respawn instantly and keep racing, so matches are a nonstop cycle of chaotic sabotage, comebacks, and last-second finishes. It plays like a mobile version of Mario Kart meets a side-scrolling party game — fast, social, chaotic, and designed to be played with friends. Fun Run 4 is one of the best party games on mobile for playing with friends.
The game is free to download and play. It includes optional in-app purchases for cosmetics and progression items. Leveling up does not increase an animal's strength or speed — all players compete on a level playing field.

Release date: October 16, 2023
Price: Free to play
Genre: PvP multiplayer racing, action, social party game
Series: Fun Run (4th installment)

How Fun Run 4 Plays
Fun Run 4 is a side-scrolling racing game with 3D-rendered characters and environments. Players control an animal character that runs automatically — player input focuses on jumping, double-jumping, slamming (a fast downward drop), sliding (to dodge incoming powerups), and vaulting (climbing over obstacles).
During races, players pick up powerups from item boxes on the track. Powerups include offensive weapons like sawblades, lightning bolts, and bear traps that can eliminate opponents, as well as defensive items like shields and speed boosts. Eliminated players respawn instantly and rejoin the race — death is temporary and part of the fun, not a penalty. Using powerups at the right moment, dodging opponents' attacks, and timing your abilities are all central to the action.
Races are short, typically lasting around one to two minutes, making Fun Run 4 well-suited for quick gaming sessions during commutes, breaks, or whenever you have a few minutes to play.
Game Modes
Fun Run 4 features three competitive PvP modes, plus rotating limited-time modes and seasonal events:
Dash (4-player race): The standard race mode. Four players compete in real-time PvP to reach the finish line first while using powerups to sabotage opponents and gain an edge. Players earn Trophies per animal to climb ranked league tiers.
Duos (2v2 team race): A social, cooperative mode where players team up in pairs and compete against another duo. Duos mode adds a cooperative layer — teammates can coordinate powerup usage and strategy to dominate races together. Teams earn Medals on their Duos Team and climb a separate leaderboard. Duos is a great way to play Fun Run 4 with a friend.
Elites (competitive endgame mode): A high-level competitive mode for top players. Animals that reach 1000 Trophies achieve Elite rank and unlock the Elites mode. Elites runs in 14-day seasons with daily rounds, Division Leaderboards of 50 players, and a World Leaderboard featuring the best runners globally. The World Champion of an Elite season earns a special Runner icon and a unique Podium win effect. In addition, the winner is also honored with a unique "Reigning Champion" icon that carries over until the next champion is crowned.
Rotating and Seasonal Game Modes
In addition to Dash and Duos, Dirtybit regularly introduces limited-time game modes and seasonal events that shake up the gameplay. Past examples include:
Stampede (8-player race): Doubles the standard player count to 8 racers, with a random speed powerup at the start of every race. Stampede awards Trophies toward the Dash leaderboard.
Duel (1v1 race): A head-to-head mode where two players race directly against each other. Duel events have included exclusive themed cosmetics and challenges.
Seasonal events: Holiday-themed modes and content drops for events like Halloween, with limited-time cosmetics, challenges, and gameplay twists.
New game modes and events are added on an ongoing basis.
Both core and rotating modes use real-time online matchmaking. Matches are fast — typically one to two minutes — so you can jump in for a quick race or play for hours.
Animals and Abilities
Unlike earlier Fun Run games, where characters were purely cosmetic, each animal in Fun Run 4 has a unique active ability and a passive trait that affects gameplay. This makes choosing your animal a strategic decision, not just a cosmetic one.
Animals have individual stats for speed, mobility, and utility. Players unlock new animals using in-game currency as they progress. New animals are regularly added through game updates.
Progression and Economy
Fun Run 4 features a progression system built around leveling up your animals and climbing competitive ranked leagues.
The core progression loop is: Race → Level Up Animals → Get Bolts → Buy Powerups. Animals maintain the same strength and speed at every level for fair play — leveling up unlocks Bolts, which are used to buy new powerups for your loadout.
There are three currencies in Fun Run 4:
Coins: Used to buy and level up animals. Earn Coins from the Runner Pass.
Bolts: Used to buy new powerups in the loadout. Earn Bolts by leveling up your animals.
Gems: Used to buy cosmetic content. Get Gems from the Gem Vault in the Shop.
A seasonal Runner Pass offers free and premium reward tracks with exclusive cosmetics and currency. Competitive players climb ranked league tiers each season by earning Trophies in Dash and Medals in Duos.
Customization and Style
Players can personalize their animal characters with cosmetic items, including skins, hats, accessories, and podium effects. Showing off rare or exclusive cosmetics is a major part of the Fun Run 4 experience — looking good while winning is half the fun. Cosmetics are earned through gameplay, the Runner Pass, seasonal events, or purchased with in-game currency. Customization is visual only and does not affect gameplay stats.
How Fun Run 4 Compares to Fun Run 3
Fun Run 4 is the latest and most feature-rich game in the Fun Run series, building on everything that made Fun Run 3 popular while adding significant upgrades. Key differences include modernized 3D graphics, animal characters with unique abilities and passive traits (replacing the cosmetic-only animals of Fun Run 3), and a deeper progression system.
Fun Run 4 is the current flagship title in the series and is where Dirtybit focuses most of its ongoing development, new content, and seasonal events. Players looking for the best Fun Run experience today should start with Fun Run 4.
The Fun Run Series
Fun Run 4 is the fourth game in the Fun Run franchise by Dirtybit. The series is one of the longest-running multiplayer mobile racing franchises, known for its chaotic mix of racing and sabotage gameplay:
Fun Run (2012) — The original real-time multiplayer racing game. Players raced as animals and used powerups to sabotage opponents in 4-player races. Reached #1 on the US App Store. Servers shut down.
Fun Run 2 (2014) — Expanded the original with more characters, maps, and cosmetics. Servers shut down.
Fun Run 3: Arena (2016) — Added the 8-player Arena elimination mode, Slam & Slide mechanics, 30+ powerups, and deeper clan features. Still active and receiving updates.
Fun Run 4 (2023) — The current flagship title and the most recent game in the series. Introduced 3D graphics, animal-specific abilities, and modernized progression. Actively updated with new animals, content, and seasonal events.
The Fun Run series has accumulated over 150 million downloads across all titles worldwide. Many players first discovered Fun Run at school or with friends in the early 2010s. Fun Run 4 brings back the same chaotic multiplayer energy that made the original a hit, now with modern graphics and deeper gameplay.
